How to receive healing from the hurts of the past?
Much of the physical sickness and diseases the root cause can be an issue of the heart (an area of brokenness). So many
Christians are either being tormented by things that happened in the past, have wounds on the inside that have never been
healed, or at tormented by fear, anxiety, depression, or other torments of the mind.
God created the physical body to heal itself but a heart that has been broken or bruised from the past can only be healed when
that area is surrendered to Jesus. Time does not heal all wounds, as time alone can not heal your heart. Time only gives you
the opportunity to build walls or close doors to rooms you have created in your heart to keep people and even you from the
hurts of the past. Healing is already available, but we need to learn what Jesus did on the cross and how to appropriate it into
our life. We need the washing of the water of the Word to save our soul and saturate our life and bring healing and
restoration. When Jesus was crucified, he was beaten physically and had to wear a crown of thorns. He then had nails driven
through his hands and feet and was fastened to a cross. Jesus was not screaming out in pain and agony. The only time
Jesus cried our was when he shouted, “MY God, my God why have you forsaken me?” It was when he felt the inner pain of His
heart when the Spirit of God has left Him.
Prov 15:13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
We are temples of the Holy Spirit and God’s spirit is expressed, through your soul (mind, will, emotions, and personality). God
want you to be filled, anointed and walking in His spirit, but if you are depressed, fearful or anxious, then it will be difficult to
walk in the fullness of the Spirit because these things can actually suppress the spirit. They are areas of brokenness that
need to be cleaned out, healed, and restored so that the power of your past can be broken. This happens when we learn how
to renew our minds with the truth in the Word of God by being transformed from the inside out with its living and active power.
Only then can the power of the Holy Spirit effectively flow through us. If you have a hear that remains broken or bruised from the
things that happened in the past then everything of the Spirit of God tries to deposit in you will not be able to be expressed.
Consequently you will not be free to be who God created you to be.
We were created by God, to be vessels for Him to do His work. But through the fall in the Garden of Eden not only were we
separated from God through Adam’s sin, but also his disobedience opened up the way for mankind to experienced
brokenness. But when we come back into relationship with God through the work that Jesus did on the cross our
relationship with God is restored. And as God’s vessels He cleans us, restores us, prepares us, sets us aside and fills us
with His spirit for His service. However, if a vessel is cracked or broken then what is poured into can leak also out.
Some of the characteristics that can manifest from brokenness:
• Experiencing trouble
• Life spend in grief and sighing
• Strength fails
• Bones waste away (Physical sickness)
• Reproach amongst friends and foes
• Repulsive to acquaintances
• Forgetfulness
People who display brokenness, grief, depression and or rejection can actually repel people – intentional or not. People do
not like to be around those who always seem to have problems or are always in trouble as it can be very draining to be around
them. What can also happen is that people displaying these characteristics can either be very sensitive, touchy or stand offish
which in turn makes it difficult to have proper conversation with them.
Some people with brokenness can also hear or interpret the intent of things that have been said to them differently. They often
listen through the ears of rejection. They take what is been said personally or to hear whether it was meant this way or not. So
their brokenness ends up being reinforced over and over again.
Sometimes with a severely brokenhearted person their mind is always confused. They can’t think straight, which explains why
some end up in institutions. They see things that are not there, they hear things that are not said; they are in another world that
draws them totally into themselves.
There is good news however, for those who are in Christ Jesus…
Give your heart to Him who died for you and He will make you well and whole.
